Ruska is a special time to visit Finland
In every autumn, a spectacular natural phenomenon takes place in Finland’s nature. During ruska, all deciduous trees and shrubs prepare for winter by changing their leaf colors into intense fiery reds, oranges and yellows. After the first night frosts, the vibrant colors cover almost all of the surrounding landscapes from ground to trees.
Ruska – the Finnish word for changing of leaves – describes besides the vibrant colors of the leaves but also the season. It is a special time to be in Finland. There is still a lot of daylight to enjoy and the temperatures during daytime are still above freezing. Ruska awards a keen nature photographer with images that will stand out. Imagine Golden Eagles, Brown Bears and many passerines in vivid backgrounds, reflections of the vibrant leaves over the water, and misty valleys with a ray of sunshine spotting the ruska trees. Endless photography opportunities await in Finland during ruska!
